COVID-19 Information for Pregnancy Care

Posted on 09/04/2020

As COVID-19 has become a Pandemic, we understand that our pregnant mothers will feel a huge sense of stress and anxiety around pregnancy care and the health of their baby.

We would like to reassure everyone, that we are continuing our holistic care for mother and baby as always. We are relying on information that we are given from NSW Department of Health and The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) to keep our patients up to date and well informed on self-care and precautions during this uncertain time.

RANZCOG outline that pregnant women are considered in the vulnerable or at-risk group category. However, if they develop COVID -19 it does not appear that they will be more severely unwell than the general population.
That being said, we are being measured and careful to take all the advice given to us to continue to deliver pregnancy care and keep our mothers and baby’s safe and well.

Care must go on and we are here for you!

  • All of our SM&B staff have been COVID – 19 infection control trained.
  •  Our rooms are open and large enough to manage social distancing.
  • Hygiene and hand washing measures at each appointment.
  • Rooms are cleaned between patients.
  • We have asked for patients to have partners only at appointments and no children in the consulting rooms wherever possible.
  • Dr Morris has ultrasound scanning at each appointment and pregnancy pathology testing can be done safely with 4cyte Pathology on Level 1, who care for our pregnant mothers and do not have COVID testing in our building.
  • We can also offer Telehealth video consults when deemed appropriate.
  • We are offering the seasonal Flu Vaccination and the pregnancy Whooping Cough Vaccination, given by our midwives at  your appointment and have both in stock.

Please continue to follow the preventative measures set out for pregnancy care from RANZCOG:

  • Warm soap and water hand washing.
  • Avoid touching your face and cough/sneeze into your elbow.
  • Social distancing 1.5 m and please stay at home, only coming out for the essentials.
  • Early reporting and investigation of symptoms. Please call ahead to our consulting rooms so we can manage your appointment.
  • Hospital support person is limited to one. No visitors.
  • If your partner has COVID-19 or symptoms, they cannot accompany you to the hospital or to your appointment with us.
  • Our hospitals will also keep updating us with changes as they evolve and we will pass this on to you.
